Classroom Training

Classroom Training:

When scheduled, classroom training sessions are mandatory for apprentices. The National Joint Board has approved some locals with training centers for a variety of classroom sessions. In other locals, the classroom training is provided by state or regional institutions. The majority of the locals send the apprentices to the National Training Center in Kansas City, KS.
Classroom TrainingIn April of 1990 the BNAP Board approved the establishment of a National Training School. The school is located at 1017 North 9th Street, Kansas City, KS 66101.
The apprentices that attend the school receives a minimum of 144 hours of training as required by the program per year. All skills of the Boilermaker Craft are taught at the school.*see links to class schedules below
Apprentices assigned to attend the school in Kansas City, spend twenty-one (21) days at the school with transportation, room and per diem paid by the area.
Apprentices are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner both in the classroom and in the community. Their behavior in public reflects not only on the individual, but also on the employer and the union. The use of drugs or alcohol, horseplay, or sexual harassment is not tolerated in the classroom.
Absenteeism or being late is not tolerated. If an apprentice fails to report for class or report late the area committee may terminate them from the program.
