How to Handle Mistakes:
It's easy to make a mistake when a
person is a new apprentice. Foremen and Journeymen know this and are usually
patient and understanding. Their patience will diminish if the apprentice
tries to cover up the mistake or continue to make the same mistake. If a
mistake is made do the following:
Report Serious Mistakes to the Supervisor:
Don't get upset, make excuses, or try to shift the blame to someone else.
Immediately tell the foreman what has happened. Then the error can be
corrected before more damage is done or someone is injured.
Correct Minor Mistakes: First, be sure
that you know what you are doing. You'll only make the situation worse if you
attempt to correct it in the wrong way. If you're with other workers when you
make an error, apologize to them, then do whatever is necessary to correct
what you've done. Remember, any mistake that jeopardizes others' safety needs
your immediate attention. If you have any doubts about how to correct the
problem, speak with your supervisor.
Avoid Making the Same Mistake Again:
Find out specifically what you did wrong and change your work habits to prevent
the same thing from happening again. Learn from your mistakes!
